There is a large need for new care homes in Gjerdrum municipacily for people with reduced ability. Gjeriveien 18 consists of 10 care homes, common spaces, and a staff area. The building will accomodate two established groups of people, and each housing unit is adapted to wheelchair users and demanding care situations. An important part of the design has been to define a distinct, shielded outdoor space through the form and orientation of the building. Connected to the main entrance, the building is organised though an internal core with common functions for the inhabitants. The staggered form of the housing units enhances the identity of the individual care home, which also shields each private outdoor space. Gjeriveien 18 will be certified according to BREEAM-NOR ‘very good’.​
