lauvåsen secondary school

newbuild

The concept for the new school in Kristiansand highlights the importance of building placement, subtle landscape interventions, varied outdoor spaces, and efficiency of programme. Forest and marshland are important biotopes of the site, which is maintained and incorporated into the design. The school is organised around a large space which includes the main entrance, library, amphitheater, cafeteria, which mediates the other functions of the school and can be accessed outside opening hours as a communal space for the local community. The classrooms and office spaces are carefully designed to be efficient, yet provide qualities for the everyday life of pupils and staff. Careful terrain interventions are employed to reduce soil extraction as well as to frame views and passages through the landscape.
